Bent Lamination Apple Holder

This project was an introduction to the technique of bent lamination. After making a two-part jig of a single curve, I laminated layered strips of ash veneer. I created multiple identical pieces using the jig, then, per the project’s prompt, manipulated them to create a form to hold any number of apples. Through exploring various possibilities for configuring the curves, I discovered that I could employ geometry to guide my design. This radial design is informed by the unique curves of the laminated pieces. Utilizing the semi-flexible property of the bent wood, the form is held together entirely by tension. Ash veneer, braided wire cord, copper crimps, quarter inch dowels, salad bowl finish.
